History
The history of Salo dates back to Roman times, when the city was known as “Pagus Salodium”. Over the centuries, Salo has been the scene of various historical events and cultural developments. One of the most important periods in the history of Salo was the time when the city was under the rule of the Republic of Venice. During this period, Salo experienced an economic boom and developed into an important trade center.
Waterfront and shopping
What makes the Salo promenade so unique is the historic atmosphere that surrounds it. Along the way, there are numerous historic buildings, villas and Liberty-style hotels that recall the splendor of the past. The parallel shopping street is characterized by small shops and cozy bars. The cafés and restaurants along the promenade invite you to enjoy an espresso or a glass of wine while watching the hustle and bustle on the street or on the water.
